Location of ReportServer\Styles

Hi,

I have successfully modified HTMLViewer.css to a different version, and using rc:stylesheet = <stylesheet> can view the modified report control bar by running the report via a URL.

However, is it possible to relocate the styles directory from its default location of

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportServer\Styles

so it can reside with our report configurations?

Regards

Kevin.

You can not change the location where RS picks up the styles.

Locate SQL Server info

Hello, I'm looking for info on how/where to find the following info about
our SQL Server:
- SQL Server version type (enterprise, standard, etc.)
- SQL Server character set
- SQL Server sort order
- SQL Server files location
- SQL Server master database location
- SQL Server tempdb data location
- SQL Server tempdb log location
The reason I am looking for this is that I have adopted an SQL server for
SMS, and I am needing to collect all pertinent info and settings for
disaster recovery. TIA.

Thank you so much for the quick replies! Unfortunately I am pretty much
clueless when it comes to SQL server, and I have no knowledge of running
commands like this ( I am the pc tech and new sms admin). From all of the
info you have posted, I only know how to get the info from the registry.
Could you possibly give me more info on how to run these commands such as
which application would I go into, the SQL Enterprise Manager? Also, in the
registry location, is it the SQLPath entry? Thanks again.

Hermes|||Hi Hermes
When someone just suggests a command to run, the tool is usually the Query
Analyzer. This is the tool you use to have your SQL Server directly execute
SQL statements.
So you could enter
SELECT * FROM master..sysaltfiles
<now press the green arrow button on the toolbar to execute this query>
or sp_helpdb 'your database name'
<press green arrow>

Localized MSDE 2000

Hi,
Can anyone tell me why localized MSDEs are necessary? Does
it have anything to do with storing localized strings?
Would the English version of an MSDE instance installed on
a - let's say - Chinese version of Windows OS, have
problems storing and working with Chinese characters?

nope... Localized versions have nothing to do with data storage...
Localized versions are only versions with localized strings contained in the
localized resource libraries...
All localized versions can store unicode data and set sort order and
collations as needed...
further info about collation can be found starting at

Localisation bug?

Can you tell me if this is a bug?
My browser language (Internet Explorer version 6) is set to English (United
Kingdom) [en-gb].
I have 2 reports based on the AdventureWorks2000 database.
The first report is:
SELECT PurchaseOrderID, EmployeeID, OrderDate
FROM PurchaseOrderHeader
WHERE EmployeeID = @.EmployeeID
ORDER BY OrderDate DESC
The second report is:
SELECT PurchaseOrderID, EmployeeID, OrderDate
FROM PurchaseOrderHeader
WHERE EmployeeID = @.EmployeeID AND OrderDate = @.OrderDate
I have created an ACTION link (using "Jump to Report") from the first report
to the second report which sets the parameters(@.EmployeeID & @.OrderDate)
accordingly. (ie. @.EmployeeID = Fields!EmployeeID.Value; @.OrderDate = Fields!OrderDate.Value. @.EmployeeID is type integer; @.OrderDate is type
DateTime).
Everything works as expected unless I perform the following steps:
1. Run the Report1 (deployed version) [report displays succesfully]
2. Click on the action link to jump to Report2 [report displays succesfully]
3. Click the "refresh" toolbar button (not Internet Explorer Refresh)
[ERROR!!]
The Error is:
Reporting Services Error
---
The value provided for the report parameter 'OrderDate' is not valid for
its type. (rsReportParameterTypeMismatch) Get Online Help
---
Notes:
--
1. If I run Report2 independantly, the refresh button works.
2. Everything works from VS.Net "preview" tab. It is only when deployed
that the error occurs.
3. If I set my Internet Explorer language to English(United States) [en-us]
then the error goes away!
Is this a bug?
Cheers,
JoeI've found a workaround (on this newsgroup) for this bug but it's not ideal:
Instead of using the 'Jump to Report' action you can use the 'Jump to URL'
action and specify the language setting there as follows:
=Globals!ReportServerUrl & "?/Development1/PODetail&EmployeeID=" &
Parameters!EmployeeID.Value & "&OrderDate=" & Fields!OrderDate.Value &
"&rs:ParameterLanguage=en-GB"
... and hey presto it works!

Local SQL Service Not Starting but SQL Server is running?

Hello there,

This is a bit of strange one.
My local version of SQL Server fails to start when I boot yet if I
start Enterprise Manager its started and working fine. ISQL or Query
Analyzer is also not working.

If I try and register the server by another SQL Server is not there. Me
thinks that the named pipes might be a bit broken but would appreciate
any advise from people.

Thanks

GintersCouple of thoughts. One the service is not starting until you start EM and
click on the server? By default when a server is registered in EM it sets
the checkbox for automatically start. Right click the server in EM, choose
Edit server registration and look at the bottom checkbox.

Another is only shared memory is working and you are trying to connect from
isql (osql) and QA remotely? In this case check the SQL server error log
for what protocols SQL started and verify that on the client that these
protocols are activated in the client network utility.

If this is a default installation then shared memory, named pipes, and tcp
are all active. Is the MSSQLServer service set to start automatically?

Do you get any error message?

Do you have the service set to start automatically?

Even if SQL Server is running?

Which operating system and which version of SQL Server are you using?

Which protcols have you enabled in the Client Network Utility? Is
shared memory on?

Local connection failure: please help

I Have SQL Server 2000 local installed on a Windows XP SP2 machine,
Dutch version.
SQL Server first connected fine via the default settings 'Use Windows
Authentication'. I use it to test VB.Net practices, which went fine
for a while. I am busy preparing for the 70-310 exam.
Then I had problems with a VB.Net (a webservice) application
connecting to SQL server local. Via a newsgroup someone advised me to
change the login to 'Use SQL Server Authentication'. I used the
default password 'sa' and no password. I couldn't get any connection.
I tried with 'Administrator', but no connection.
When I tried to set it back to 'Use Windows Authentication' I get the
message Connection Failed, check SQL Server registration properties.
When I tried to open the properties of the local SQL Server (LOCAL)
(Windows NT) via the Enterprise Manager I get error 1069. I tried
several usernames, nothing helps. I didn't change the default, so it
should be 'sa' without a password?
Please help, I am stuck for days now.
RoyWell, the only solution was to re-install SQL Server and restore the
databases...

Local Admin Rights Needed to Use DSNs on W2K3 Server?

Hi, (sorry this is a long one)

I have MSSQL 2000 (version 8.00.2187) installed on Windows Server 2K3, nothing 'special' has been done to either of these servers as far as configuration goes.

The exact details of the Windows server are Version - 5.2.3790, SP1.

In order to query an Oracle db from SQL, I've set up a linked server within SQL that uses a DSN to connect to the Oracle system. I use ADO to connect to SQL with integrated security (SSPI = True) and users can fire SQL stored procedures via an app. which query the linked server (so these SPs of course are using the DSN).

The problem is that unless the user's domain account (the context which I presume SQL is passing to Windows when using the DSN due to the fact that integrated security is being used) is a member of the local admins group on the server, they obtain a security related error message stating that access is denied. Even if the user is a member of Power Users on the server, they get the same error. However as soon as the users account is a member of local admins on they can fire the stored procedures and get data from the linked server no problems.

I can understand why you would want to place security around DSNs which may be able to connect to a datasource with elevated privileges, but conversely I don't like having to make end users admins of server boxes.

So my question - is it possible to modify our setup in some way to either 1) configure Windows to allow 'normal' users (no elevated windows privileges) to call and use DSNs in the manned described above or 2) configure SQL to not pass a users credentials when calling to Windows to use a DSN (instead perhaps passing the credentials of the SQL service), this way I could grant the right permissions to the SQL account and wouldn't end up with loads of end users being local admins on my server. If this is possible could someone describe to me the steps taken to do this.

I've spoken to someone from IT about this and he suggests opening up permissions on the registry where details of DSNs are stored. Not surprisingly I'm not overly keen on this option.

Thanks for reading this far, any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

IanThis is a darn good question to which I have no real answer to. I have no experience (read: exactly zero experience) with DSNs, so I can only give broad suggestions on how I would go about this.

My only suggestion is to take a look at the Security tree in Enterprise Manager. Pay particular attention to the Logins and Linked Servers tabs. Thoroughly check all of the permissions for the user accounts in that area.

Sorry I could not be of more help.

LoadRunner + SqlTrace Problem

Hi ,
I am having Evaluation version of LoadRunner. I create a
sceneiro for 10 virtual users. My requirement is i want to know the
database hits. (ie i need to see the Database hits for 10 Virual
users).Because for me in some cases dead lock are occured. So i want to
see the transactions. I open the Sql Profiler to see the transactions.
When i run the sceneiro and i open the SQL profiler nothing
will happend in the SQL Profiler. Any one can please explain how to
attach the profiler for the Virual users.
I want to generate a hit for my local server with 10 virtual
users. And also i want to see the Hits with the help of Profiler.
Any can help me regarding this..
Thanks in Advance..
Thanks & Regards
VeluHi
If you are running connection pooling or the same user login, then I don't
think it will be possible to distinguish which client is running the code
unless you do something like adding a comment to the command string. This
would mean a change in the application.
If you do differentiate connections to different logins then you would need
to change the loadrunner script to read the user details on start up.
